Helping NICU Moms Provide Breast Milk for their Babies

Each year, 10 – 15 percent of babies born in the U.S. are treated in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). There are a number of reasons this happens: Premature birth Breathing problems Infections Difficult delivery When you’re the parent of a newborn in the NICU, it’s so easy to feel helpless. There are so many lines and tubes connected to your baby and all you really want to do is comfort him or her. Historically, that’s all you really could do. But recent studies are showing that there is one step mom can take to help improve the health… Read more.

Honoring Our Veterans

We held a parade at our corporate campus in Nashville to honor the more than 4,400 veterans we have working with us company-wide. We even had a couple drummers from Vanderbilt lead the way! Here’s a short clip with remarks from CEO Richard Bracken. Thank you for all you do!

Hiring 1 Million Veterans

Today, there are 12 million veterans in the civilian workforce (we have over 4,400 at HCA alone). Over one million veterans are currently unemployed. One of the reasons behind this is employers don’t always know how to match military talent with their open positions. To help address this problem, the US Chamber of Commerce launched a new veteran hiring program called “Hiring Our Heroes” in March of 2011. The effort started with a partnership between the US Chamber of Commerce, and The Department of Labor Veterans Employment and Training Services (DOL VETS).  That partnership has now grown to include the… Read more.

Caring for the Community Beyond the Hospital Walls

We’re wrapping up one of my favorite times of the year. The leaves on the trees here in Nashville are peaking and the air is getting just a bit colder foreshadowing the winter that’s just around the corner. This time of year is also great because at HCA, we recently completed our annual employee giving campaign and the stories are beginning to come in from the people in the community we were able to help.
