Hiring Veterans

Whenever we talk to a Veteran, the phrase, “thank you for your service to our country” always works its way into the conversation. Veterans and active servicemen and women appreciate hearing those words. I do too, having served in the U.S. Air Force as a member of the Munitions Maintenance Squadron at Edwards Air Force Base in California. Maybe it’s attributable to the recent presidential election, but the topic of healthcare reform seems to be at the forefront of many discussions. Most healthcare discussions tend to revolve around access to care, quality of care and the ever-rising costs to deliver superior patient care. This last point— rising costs— has become a primary focus of our industry that is both concerning and perplexing. This year’s Frist Humanitarian Award recipients have demonstrated compassionate care and made extraordinary contributions. The humility these leaders displayed upon receiving our company’s highest honor was remarkable. Clearly, each honoree felt he or she was compelled to respond to a need and help others through actions that, large or small, made a real difference.
